WINfirst Selects SPATIALinfo for Network Inventory Management System

(Denver, Colorado, May 16, 2001) – SPATIALinfo, a specialist supplier of network information solutions, today announced that its SPATIALnet™ and SPATIALweb™ products have been selected by Denver-based WINfirst as the core components of its Network Inventory Management system to underpin the planning, rollout and management of WINfirst's innovative fiber-to-the-home network.

SPATIALinfo will deploy SPATIALnet and SPATIALweb to integrate Autodesk® and Oracle® products into a seamless end-to-end network design and maintenance solution. The Network Inventory System will allow WINfirst to maintain operational and asset integrity over all network elements by providing a comprehensive inventory of the entire network. The system will also support customer flow through provisioning and will help in managing network capacity down to the port level. The system will be implemented within a two-month delivery timeframe, including data migration, product configuration and training.

"Speed and flexibility are essential to our success and these were decisive factors in selecting SPATIALinfo, said Frank Casazza, President and COO of WINfirst. "SPATIALinfo demonstrated against major competition that they had the products, tools and team to deal immediately with WINfirst's aggressive timetable, and to provide a flexible and efficient on-going solution that allowed us to deliver on our commitment of outstanding customer service. We are very happy to be working with a partner who shares our vision of delighting the customer."

"WINfirst has taken the unprecedented step of investing heavily at the outset in the network itself, and in the innovative infrastructure needed to support top-notch customer service. They needed a system that could be implemented quickly, to keep up with their rollout schedule, and be flexible enough to change and extend easily as the business grows," said Greg Foster, President of SPATIALinfo. "Our 80% 'out of the box' fiber network solution already has the network and landbase object models required. That meant only a short time would be needed to clarify WINfirst's business requirements, and to configure the design, database and web products using our rapid implementation tools. WINfirst's AutoCAD® and other drawings could also be promoted to database status quickly with our existing migration software."

WINfirst is building an entirely new fiber optic network that is designed to offer high speed Internet, cable and telephone service to every residential neighbourhood it serves. The optical link will enable WINfirst to provide an Internet service that will be some 65 times faster than typical 1.5 Mbps high-speed connections offered via T1 or DSL and cable modem today. WINfirst has received regulatory approval to build networks to more than 3.7 million homes in Sacramento and San Diego CA; Austin, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio TX; and Seattle WA; and has received a temporary permit pending full approval in Portland, Oregon. In addition, WINfirst is pursuing regulatory approval in Los Angeles and the San Francisco East Bay area.

SPATIALnet is a comprehensive AM/FM/GIS application for capturing, editing and displaying outside plant and inside plant networks, modeled and stored in a relational database. SPATIALnet contains a configurable set of data entry business rules, to store all graphics, connectivity and attributes in Oracle as a single, continuous and fully connected network model, and to publish and report real-time status.
