City of Springfield Selects SPATIALinfo for GIS and Hansen IMS Integration Requirements
(Denver, Colorado - November 26, 2001) - SPATIALinfo, a specialist supplier of network information solutions, today announced that its SPATIALnet™, SPATIALmover™ and SPATIALmodeler™ products had been selected by The City of Springfield, Oregon, after a competitive RFP process, as the core components of its first stage program to integrate GIS and Hansen IMS sewer infrastructure inventories into a single function.

The City's vision is to provide reliable, centralized access to engineering-quality sewer infrastructure information. Project objectives include the elimination of duplicated and dissimilar information, and the creation of the framework for a complete, accurate, and up-to-date electronic sewer map inventory which will support detailed map production using Autodesk® CAD and ESRI® GIS software environments.

SPATIALinfo will supply its SPATIALnet development environment, train City staff in its use, and guide the City through implementation by providing on-site support during a short development period. More complex software design tasks – including Hansen integration – will be carried out by SPATIALinfo in conjunction with Hansen Information Technologies, and delivered to the City to support.

“The first step is to create a central data capture warehouse, to allow the City to administer the maintenance, reconciliation and integration of existing electronic and paper-based sewer inventories”, said Mr. Brandt Melick, GIS Coordinator for the Springfield Public Works Department. “SPATIALinfo demonstrated that it had the products, experience and flexible approach needed to help manage our requirements, and to assist in quickly establishing an open platform for immediate and future benefit. The program with SPATIALinfo will provide well-coordinated continuing use of our existing systems, rapid entry of existing as-built AutoCAD drawings into the data warehouse, and some initial warehousing of Hansen IMS information to support analysis, mapping and reporting functions. We will be much better positioned, even after the first stage, to improve workflow, more efficiently manage our assets, support sound decision making, and comply with Federal and State mandates”, said Mr. Melick.

“This vital project with City of Springfield highlights the flexibility of SPATIALinfo's products and approach”, said Greg Foster, President of SPATIALinfo. “City staff will be actively involved in solution delivery following initial training, including requirements gathering, product configuration, system testing, project management and custom documentation. Our 80% ‘out of the box' sewer network solution already has the network and landbase object models required. That means only a short time is needed to help clarify the City's business requirements, and to train the City's staff to configure the database and data migration products to move existing ESRI shape files, AutoCAD as-built drawings, paper-based sewer maps and other scanned images, into the City's preferred relational database, Microsoft SQL Server®.”

SPATIALnet is a comprehensive AM/FM/GIS application for capturing, editing and displaying outside plant and inside plant networks, modeled and stored in a relational database. SPATIALnet contains a configurable set of data entry business rules, to store all graphics, connectivity and attributes in Oracle® or Microsoft SQL Server as a single, continuous and fully connected network model, and to publish and report real-time status.
