SPATIALweb

Datasheet (pdf, 764KB)

SPATIALweb™ is a sophisticated web application capable of displaying complex combinations of CAD/GIS/Network map data as vector graphics and raster images over the Internet using a standard web browser like Internet Explorer. SPATIALweb™ is the ideal solution for placing graphical network intelligence on the desktop of every member of an organization.

SPATIALweb™ works closely with the SPATIALnet™ product, so that network designs modeled and maintained in SPATIALnet™ databases will be visible instantly on the web. The entire SPATIALweb™ application is a self-configuring application which is simple to set up and maintain.

EASE OF USE

The primary goal of SPATIALweb™ is to place spatial data into the hands of ordinary users, with an interface that is so easy to use that little or no training will be required for staff members to make productive use of SPATIALweb's™ feature set.

The client/server architecture of SPATIALweb™ is being continuously refined so that it makes the most efficient use possible of network bandwidth, server resources and the normally unused processing power available on users local machines through their web browsers. Users in any geographical location can interact with data stored in a database hundreds or thousands of kilometers away with near real time access.

Users work in a secure environment, with all access to data via SPATIALweb™ protected by username and password security. SPATIALweb™ employs sophisticated session and security management, completely hidden from users.

Setting up a user's machine to run SPATIALweb™ requires only a one-time download of the vector graphics viewing technology. After the download has been completed, users simply type in the URL of the SPATIALweb™ server and they have immediate access to the full power of SPATIALweb™.

INTEGRATION

The SPATIALweb™ enterprise solution integrates the following technologies:
  • industry standard web application server technology from Allaire (Cold Fusion™) which is capable of running on WindowsNT, HP-UX and SUN web servers

  • industry standard relational databases, including both Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server

  • a variety of vector graphics display plug-ins for web browsers, including Autodesk MapGuide® and Autodesk Volo™View, and various third party SVG viewers

  • web server and database server clustering for high availability and hardware fault tolerance
The SPATIALweb™ product is integrated using the same data model / informational approach used by SPATIALnet™. All configuration for network models, on-screen view presentations, toolbar configuration and workflow management configuration is read from a master configuration file by the SPATIALweb™ server. Extensive caching of business rules and application logic is maintained locally on user machines, so that in many cases application logic only needs to be downloaded once. The major advantage is that processing load is moved from the web server to the local machine, improving performance and reducing the load on the server.

In web environments with hundreds if not thousands of users, this load balancing is vital.

CONFIGURABILITY

SPATIALweb™ was created using industry standard tools, making it straightforward for customers to extend the core functionality provided 'out of the box'. Most changes to the behavior of a specific network model can be made in the Data Dictionary. If users require additional modules however, (for example, a custom drawing workflow management system) these can be easily integrated as customer add-ons.

FEATURE SET

SPATIALweb™ provides a variety of tools for viewing and working with spatial data and network information on the web:
  • easy to navigate toolbars and commands panels

  • operation from any web-enabled PC

  • automated configuration of the SPATIALweb™ server using SPATIALinfo's graphical application and data modeling tool - SPATIALmodeler

  • extensive use of pop-up panels and a consistent work area in order to optimize user workflow

  • advanced layer control tools for quickly changing the visibility of objects in the display client at a variety of levels

  • selection control including functionality for text based selection editing of graphical objects and viewing selections color coded by attribute values

  • attribute editing tools so that users can edit the attributes of any element within the network in a job controlled environment

  • support for red-lining and mark-up annotations so that field operators can flag changes to be made in the network

  • reporting on network objects which is flexible, simple to use, and provides reports which can be saved and emailed around the office

  • network search capabilities, including network tracing, and an Object Finder which provides sophisticated abilities for identifying objects in the database by their functions within the network
