SPATIALinfo Releases SDM 4.2
(Sydney, Australia, 24th April, 1998) - SPATIALinfo Pty Limited, one of Australia's leading product developers and systems integrators in Automated Mapping/Facilities Management (AM/FM), Spatial Information Systems (SIS), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) solutions, today announced the release of Version 4.2 of its flagship spatial relational database management product, Spatial Data Manager (SDM).

SDM was designed to take the mystique out of spatial information by using industry standard tools, API's, and an open systems approach to enable spatial data to be stored in commercially available relational databases, ready for access from any part of an enterprise.

Mr Peter Mitchell, a Director of SPATIALinfo said, SDM was already superior technically to any spatial server available today in the market, and with the release, on schedule, of Version 4.2, we've put even more distance between SDM and competing products to position SDM as the world's leading spatial enterprise information enabling server technology.

Major enhancements in SDM 4.2 include:
- The internal format of the SDM licence file has been altered to accommodate the Year 2000.
- SDM now supports the OpenGIS standard for coordinate binary format. This enables any spatial data engine which supports the OpenGIS industry standard to access SDM coordinates.
- SDM's ability to deliver data in alternate coordinate reference systems has been further enhanced so that SDM can deliver data in Australian Map Grid coordinates.
- A library of utility functions has been added in the SDM 4.2 release. For example, utilities that enable automated data warehousing replication/conversion within the enterprise RDBMS environment.
"One of SPATIALinfo's fundamental beliefs is that customers need to leverage their existing IT investments in software infrastructure and working solutions, and hence they will increasingly demand broader enterprise information solutions which are spatially enabled rather than buying islands of technology. SPATIALinfo is uniquely positioned to help organisations make that transition, said Mr Tony Cotter, another of SPATIALinfo's Directors.

The release of SDM 4.2 coincides with SPATIALinfo's attendance at the prestigious AM/FM International Exhibition in San Jose, California, from 26 April to 29 April 1998, where SPATIALinfo will demonstrate the use of SDM with SPATIALnet, its ARC-NET AM/FM/GIS System redeveloped using Autodesk client technologies.

SPATIALinfo is a software company, specialising in the development and delivery of software products, consulting, applications development, data migration, and systems integration solutions for Automated Mapping/Facilities Management, Geographic Information Systems, Work Management Systems, Document Management Systems (DMS) and related technologies. SPATIALinfo's software products include SDM - Spatial Data Manager and SPATIALnet (formerly ARC-NET) both used by telecommunications, cable, power, water and gas, as well as infrastructure projects and government agencies, including land management agencies.
